U.S. Senate calls hearing on TVA coal ash disaster

kingston_ash_cleanup.jpgThe U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works has announced that it will hold a hearing next week on the Tennessee Valley Authority's devastating spill of 1.1 billion gallons of toxic coal ash in Eastern Tennessee's Roane County.

Testifying will be TVA President and CEO Tom Kilgore, Roane County Director of Emergency Management Services William "Howie" Rose, and Dr. Stephen Smith, executive director of the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy -- a nonprofit that has notified TVA of its intent to sue over the disaster.

The hearing is scheduled to take place next Thursday, Jan. 8 at 10 a.m. ET, and will be webcast live at the committee's site.
